School partners for citizen science projects

School partners for citizen science projects

Schools are excellent research partners. Several schools in Austria have been cooperating with research institutions for years and have comprehensively contributed to scientific projects. But there are also many schools interested in research collaborations that still lack the contact to research partners.

Since 2012, the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research has awarded the Young Science quality seal for research partner schools to those schools with extraordinary scientific commitment. With this quality seal, the Federal Ministry acknowledges the outstanding research cooperation between schools and research institutions where students are actively involved in research projects.

So far, 39 different schools in Austria have been awarded the Young Science quality seal for research partner schools. Some schools have received this quality seal for four times in a row.

All outstanding schools from 2012-2018 are listed on the Young Science website.

Some schools in Austria have none or only a little experience with research cooperation so far but are interested in collaborations and want to actively participate in research projects. However, many lack the contacts to organisations and projects. Thus, the Young Science Center lists all interested schools with contact persons and details on their website to make it easier for research institutions and project leaders to get in touch with schools.

HERE you can find the contact persons at schools that are interested in research cooperations.

At the 4th Austrian Citizen Science Conference in February 2018, researchers as well as teachers were invited to discuss their experience with research cooperation between scientific institutions and schools. You can download the workshop results here: Factors of a succesful cooperation with schools (only available in German)
