Association of Austrian Nature Parks

The members of the Austrian Nature Parks Association (VNÖ) are the 48 Austrian Nature Parks. Around 500,000 people live in these areas, many of whom are involved in nature park activities - from project assistance to sustainable production of agricultural products to the nature park schools and kindergartens.

What does the Association of Austrian Nature Parks do?

VNÖ is the umbrella organisation for all Austrian nature parks. The main tasks include the further development of the nature park idea and the implementation of marketing measures. The VNÖ is currently devoting its attention to the topic of biodiversity in particular and is contributing with various measures to the protection and conservation of biodiversity.

How the Association of Austrian Nature Parks can support Citizen Science projects:

  • Public relations for selected projects
  • Nature park network: contact and information transfer
  • Information point for questions about nature parks
  • Research fund for diploma and master theses

Projects in these areas are of particular interest:

  • Protection: biodiversity, visitor guidance, contract nature conservation (ÖPUL), supervision of protected areas, "gentle mobility", natural history information
  • Recreation: nature-friendly leisure activities, accessibility
  • Education: nature park schools and kindergartens, nature and landscape education
  • Regional development: socially and environmentally friendly tourism, nature park specialities and restaurants, employment projects, marketing measures
