Project objective

Via the Citizen Science tool "Participation Radar” school classes collect options for political participation (e.g. petitions or public meetings), they categorise them and put them at other people’s disposal via a collective platform. These can be new online options as well as traditional forms of participation. In scientific terms a comprehensive inventory of the participation options in Austria, both online and offline ones, is established in this way for the first time.

How to participate?

Data is collected via the data collection tool – the “Political Radar” –, which is integrated into the website. There schools can register, enter their observations and categorise them. The broad public can then access all participation options that have been entered.

School classes register via mail (Kontakt@politikradar.at) at the latest till May 15. The following information is required:

  • Name of school (incl. address)
  • Name of the class and contact person
  • Number of pupils in the class

What happens to the contributions of citizen scientists?

The project team collects the contributions. The contributions on one hand serve for scientific analysis and on the other hand the broad public can access them directly via the platform. Then researchers can get a comprehensive picture of the participation options in Austria for the first time by means of the jointly collected data and explore the following questions: Who are the actors? What are the topics? Which citizens do they address? At the same time an information database is created on the platform by means of the collected data. There citizens can search for participation options, inform themselves and take part.

Prizes and winners

The school classes that collect the highest amount of data will receive prizes at the festive event. The winner class will get a prize of € 1,000.--, the one coming in second place will get € 750.-- and the one coming in third place will get € 500.--. Furthermore the class with the most creative and high quality contributions will receive a special prize.
