Defining principles for mobile apps and platforms
Date: 25/04/2017 - 27/04/2017
Location: University of Gothenburg, Gothenburg, Sweden
In Citizen Science several apps and platforms are being developed to efficiently gather and manage data. Experience shows that there are many pitfalls on the way to a successful product.
In the first workshop in December 2016 in Berlin principles for best practice in three areas were identified and developed: (1) Interoperability and data standardization; (2) User Interface & Experience Design: Interaction, Mechanisms to support Motivation; (3) Outreach, Learning, Education, and other Rewards of Participation.
In the second three-day workshop the discussion on principles and guidelines for app and web platform development in citizen science will be continued. There will be case studies talks and a poster session about success and failure in development, engagement and user interaction. In working groups we will work on methods how we can foster reuse, share learning experience and track participant’s contributions.
