Citizen Science, Open Innovation, Co-Creation, Crowdsourcing – science starts to open up: More and more citizens support researchers. They measure, observe, map. They work on a voluntary basis in scientific projects and enrich science with their special know-how and exciting new points of view.

The brochure on citizen science initiatives, networks, platforms and funding offers a comprehensive overview of the current national and international citizen science landscape. Register for the next Sparkling Science Congress

Since 2007, the research funding program Sparkling Science has successfully encouraged cooperation between science and schools. But how has the cooperation developed in the last 12 years? Save the date: Citizen Science Award Day & Ceremony

From 1 April to 5 July, school classes and individuals participated in seven research projects. On 19 November 2019,  the most enthusiastic citizen scientists will be awarded cash- and non-cash prizes. at the festive award ceremony on 19 November 2019 in Vienna. During the day, the projects will again organise the Citizen Science Award Day filled with workshops, guided tours and other activities.

Citizen Science & Law II on image rights

Who owns a picture and how can projects legally use pictures provided by citizens? The second event on Citizen Science & Law focused on rights to images, copyrights and licensing. Project leaders discussed on 28 May image rights and regulations in relation to citizen science projects at Palais Harrach in Vienna. The presentations and the documentation of the event are online.

New online platform on citizen science

The aim of the new online platform is to strengthen and boost citizen science in Europe. It was therefore set up to become a central hub for knowledge sharing, coordination and action on a regional, national and international level. The platform is dedicated to scientists, research institutions as well as citizen scientists and policymakers and has received funding from the European Commission's Horizon 2020 program "Science with and for Society".
