The Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy supports the Austrian researchers’ community by means of different funding options in order to establish Citizen Science in Austria. The current ones are the funding initiative “Top Citizen Science” and the awarding of the “Citizen Science Awards”.
Top Citizen Science
The 2nd call of Top Citizen Science invited ongoing FWF and Sparkling Science projects to submit expansion projects according to the goals of citizen science and open innovation from 7th November 2016 until 16th Januray 2017. This initiative is organised by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy (BMWFW) and the OeAD.
Citizen Science Awards
With the awarding of the Citizen Science Awards the BMWFW supports selected citizen science projects in arousing interest in committed citizen scientists in collaborating in the research projects. In the first call for applications for the Awards in 2015 only school classes in Austria were invited to collaborate in four research projects. In 2016 not only pupils but all interested citizens – from individuals to groups (clubs and societies, youth groups, etc.) – were invited to take part in one of ten citizen science projects between April 1st and September 30th, 2016.
